Self-service library

Libraries that can also be used when no staff is present are called self-service libraries.

A self-service library is a library that is accessible even when there is no staff present. The times for self-service use are posted on each library's website. During the self-service hours, you can borrow and return material, pick up reserved material, read magazines and newspapers, study, work and spend time in the library. Available for use are the materials, open wireless network and facilities defined by each library separately. Other services may also be available, such as customer computers.

A valid Helmet library card with a registered right to use the self-service library are required for becoming a customer of the self-service library. Registration as a self-service library customer, as well as giving consent for a child under 15 to use the self-service library, must be done in person at the library. Registered library customers can access the self-service libraries with their personal library card and PIN number.

During self-service hours, there are no staff at the library, but the facilities are monitored through technological means, such as cameras. Usually, customers can borrow and return material, use customer computers, read magazines and newspapers, work and hold meetings at the self-service library. The library's wireless connection is also at your disposal. Staff service hours and self-service times are posted on each library's own website.

Self-service libraries can be used by individuals aged 15 and over who have a valid Helmet library card and have registered as self-service library users. They can also be used by children under 15 who have a valid library card and whose guardian or other legal representative has given consent for the independent use of self-service libraries, and by children under 15 when accompanied by a registered adult.
