This is the 60th Helsinki Day baby

The City of Helsinki celebrates the first baby born in Helsinki on the city’s birthday on 12 June. This year, the City extends its congratulations to the Hokkanen-Koponen family whose baby boy was born at 00.12.

The new Helsinki resident weighed 1880 g and was 46 cm long at birth.

As is tradition, Mayor Daniel Sazonov visited the family and the new baby at the Women’s Hospital on the morning of Helsinki Day.

The family received a Finnish-made babyclothes by Melli Ecodesign Oy. The parents also received a bouquet of flowers and a letter of congratulations, according to which the baby will receive a gift cheque of €300 as soon as the baby has been baptised or entered into the population register.

The tradition of congratulating the first baby of Helsinki Day has been ongoing for 60 years: the first Helsinki Day baby was celebrated in 1965.
