The temporary snow dump site in Helsinki’s Malmi district will be built in the northern part of Malminkenttä, west of the taxiway. Construction will start in autumn 2025 and conclude by autumn 2026.

The temporary snow dump site will replace Malmi’s existing snow dump site, located along the Tattarinharjuntie road. The temporary snow dump site will open by the winter of 2026–2027.

The construction will change outdoor trails and ski trails

A new route will be built for the ski trail circling around the former airport, with the new route running south of the snow dump site. A new supplementary outdoor trail will also be built next to the new ski trail.

The ski trail to be removed as a result of the renovation has been used as a pedestrian and cycling route during the snow-free months. It will remain in this use as usual during the initial construction phase. As construction progresses, the entire route will be temporarily closed. Once construction is complete, the route will once again open for use by pedestrians and cyclists.

There will also be changes to the southern parts of the Malminkenttä ski trail next winter due to the progress of construction in the area.

The management of stormwater from the snow dump site will be implemented in a way that does not harm the environment.
