New self-check station opens in Kalasatama

Kalasatama Health and Well-being Centre has opened a new MedicubeX self-check station. The station allows clients to carry out health measurements agreed upon in advance before their doctor’s appointment, with the idea being that carrying out measurements in advance leaves more time to go over other things during the appointment.

Last spring, Vuosaari Health and Well-being Centre became the first health station in Helsinki to open a self-check station.

“We have found the self-check station to be useful for both professionals and clients at Vuosaari’s health station services. The station streamlines appointments and is easy to use for clients. We are constantly looking for new innovations with which to improve the services of Helsinki’s health stations,” says Helsinki’s Medical Director of Health Stations Timo Lukkarinen.

The self-measurement station allows clients to measure their own blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, body temperature, weight and body composition. In addition to this, the station can be used to produce an electrocardiogram (ECG), which provides information about the functioning of the heart. The client is provided with a printout of their measurement results without any personal data. The measurements take approximately five minutes to carry out.

The self-check station is located in the lobby of Kalasatama Health and Well-being Centre.

The self-check station provides guidance to its users and there are also operating instructions available next to the machine. The staff will also provide assistance with the use of the self-measurement station, if needed. Using the station is voluntary for clients.

“It is great to see our cooperation with the City of Helsinki continue. This newly released version of MedicubeX is more advanced than the previous one,” says CEO of MedicubeX Ltd Vili Kostamo.

“The station offers clients a new way to monitor their own health. The results of the measurements can also be used by health care professionals to assess the client's state of health,” Kostamo continues.

Utilising MedicubeX in Kalasatama and Vuosaari is part of the City of Helsinki's development and testbed activities, which involve developing future health and well-being services with partners, with Helsinki itself serving as the testbed for testing, developing and scaling up new innovations. The self-check station was developed in the Health Incubator Helsinki programme.
