There are more than 80 events for children and young people in Helsinki during the autumn break week. Most of the autumn break events offered by the City are free of charge and even those that are subject to a fee are affordable. The entire autumn break programme has now been compiled in one place on the tapahtumat.hel.fi website for the first time. In Helsinki, the autumn break starts on Friday 15 October and ends on Sunday 24 October.
There are over 80 ways in which you can spend the autumn break in Helsinki. Events aimed at families with children and young people are held all over the city at youth centres, sports venues, libraries, cultural centres and museums. Art workshops and sports for families with children
For families with children, the City is organising a variety of art workshops and sports-oriented events. The entire family can learn more about the history of Helsinki through shared activities at Helsinki City Museum’s Children's Town. On 17 October, Annantalo turns into a construction site for the ‘Puuta päin! workshop, where children can try their hand at sawing wood, hammering nails and painting. Then on 18 October starting at 10:00, the whole family can try tackling a fun obstacle course and orienteering challenge at Malmitalo.
Libraries offer board and console games, reflector and tote bags workshops as well as mysteries for private detectives during the autumn break. Meanwhile Töölö Sports Hall will be hosting the EasySportweek where schoolchildren in grades 1–6 can try various ball games and enjoy the joy of sport. The City’s swimming halls are also open during the autumn break.
Young people involved in the planning and organisation of autumn break events
The City’s youth centres are organising plenty of activities in collaboration with young people during the autumn break. Action Day Savela, for example, is a day of events at Pihlajamäki Youth Park organised by young people on 18 October from 13:00 to 17:00. The programme includes bubble football, a bouncy castle, sumo wrestling, face painting, a goal competition, ping pong, capture the flag and other competitions. At Kanneltalo, young people will get to design an escape room game for their peers and build a light installation on Sitratori during the autumn break.
Tiivistämö is hosting Mätä-fest, a rock festival highlighting young artists, DJs and filmmakers, on 21–22 October. Tiivistämö’s autumn break programme also includes a free gig by Cledos on Saturday 23 October.
Liikuntamylly is hosting an autumn celebration organised jointly by FunAction and NYT activities on 20 October from 16:00 to 20:00, where young people will get to try different sports. Autumn break camps for children and young people have also been in high demand this year, with most of them already fully booked.
