City of Helsinki options attractive in joint application system

City of Helsinki municipal general upper secondary schools and Helsinki Vocational College have a total of 6,351 places for applicants participating in the joint application system. A total of 7,050 primary applicants applied for these places. The number of applicants increased in general upper secondary and vocational education. In 2025, the number of primary applicants was 6,468.

“City of Helsinki municipal general upper secondary schools and Helsinki Vocational College provide students with diverse study options and a good foundation for both further studies and the world of work,” says the City of Helsinki’s Head of General Upper Secondary, Vocational and Liberal Adult Education Harri Korhonen.

Mäkelänrinne Upper Secondary School and dental technology among the most popular

The City of Helsinki has 15 general upper secondary schools, three of which are Swedish-language schools. Of all the applications, Helsinki Upper Secondary School of Languages had the highest number of applicants, and Mäkelänrinne Upper Secondary School had the highest number of primary applicants in relation to the number of places.

A City of Helsinki municipal general upper secondary school was the primary choice for 4,677 applicants. There were 4,113 applicants to Finnish-language general upper secondary schools and 564 to Swedish-language general upper secondary schools.

The most popular fields of study in Helsinki Vocational College were dental technology, medicine, medical equipment maintenance, media and visual expression, and logistics.

In the joint application system, there were 
1,680 applicants to preparatory education for an upper secondary qualification, or TUVA training, of which 90 were primary applicants.

There were 444 applicants for the Swedish equivalent, Hux, of which 12 were primary applicants. Hux is organised by Prakticum in Helsinki.

The results of the joint application will be published on 11 June.
