The impact report published today shows that the current members and alumni of the Maria 01 community raised a total of 337 million euros in 2025. In 2024, the sum was 102 million euros, meaning that funding increased by 230% in 2025 compared to the previous year. This also marks the largest sum raised in the ten-year history of Maria 01.
“The record funding reflects the growing attractiveness of Finnish and Helsinki-based startups from the perspective of both domestic and international investors,” says Paula Miettinen, Director of Business Services at the City of Helsinki.
NestAi (€100 million), Linear (€72.7 million) and Verda (€55 million) raised particularly significant funding.
Record year shows ecosystem maturing
“Maria 01 aims to support the growth and internationalisation of Finnish startups, but also to promote the flow of international capital, innovation and talent to Finland. This record year has not come about by coincidence, but reflects the maturation of the ecosystem and the growing ability of Finnish companies to attract large international funding rounds,” says Sarita Runeberg, CEO of Maria 01.
The current and alumni members of Maria 01 make up an estimated 14% of Finland's startup population, but they accounted for 22% of all startup funding raised in Finland in 2025, according to an estimate by the Finnish Venture Capital Association.
“We want to strengthen Finland's position as a leading European startup hub and do our part to ensure that the number of startups and the funding they receive remain high," Runeberg continues.
Nearly 40% of Finnish startups based in Helsinki
The number, structure and economic impact of startups in Helsinki have also recently been the subject of a major survey. According to a startup survey published in January, the employment impact of startups in Helsinki has increased almost 20-fold since 2005. According to the survey, Helsinki is home to more than 40% of the country's startups.
Maria 01 is a community-based non-profit company, established in 2016 in an old hospital building in the centre of Helsinki.
