Competition to develop sustainable innovations and promote the employment of young designers

The main goal of Young Finnish Design Ltd, the organiser of the New materials, New designs competition, is to promote the employment of young designers.

- Through the competition, we will promote sustainable product design and give voice to young designers. The aim is to inspire as many emerging designers as possible to take advantage of the most up-to-date competence offered by top Finnish education. We want to create cooperation between young designers and the forward-thinking companies involved in the competition, says Heidi Maria Huovinen, Creative Director at Young Finnish Design.

The ongoing design competition provides young designers with opportunities to find cooperation partners and, in the best case, get their own work on the shelves of shops. Organised for the first time last year, the competition received more than 100 entries, and the winning entries are currently in the product development phase.

The partners of the  New materials, New designs design competition are Unikulma, RD Physics, Sulapac, Hollolan Viilu ja Laminaatti, City of Helsinki Circular Economy Cluster, City of Espoo, City of Vantaa, Savonia University of Applied Sciences, Kuopio Academy of Design and Napapiirin Energia ja Vesi.
