Helsinki archipelago offers new sauna opportunities

The City of Helsinki and Helsinki-Uusimaa Outdoors, Uuvi, will be stepping up their cooperation in the Helsinki archipelago over the coming summers. The public will have a chance to sample their efforts this summer, as saunas will be heating up on Western Neitsytsaari and Malkasaari islands.

Sauna on Western Neitsytsaari available for booking from 24 June onwards

The sauna on Western Neitsytsaari island will open to the public on 24 June, and you can book it for a small fee through the online booking system. The booking link will open on 24 June. The self-service sauna offers a traditional wood-fired sauna experience, where you get to chop the wood and heat up the heater yourself before relaxing in the sauna. The sauna can accommodate approximately 3–4 people at a time.

Western Neitsytsaari island has jetties for boaters and kayakers. In addition to this, mooring rings are available for boaters on the southwestern side of the island, and kayakers and standup paddleboarders can land on the small beaches on both sides of the island. During the summer season, FRS Finland operates a ferry to Western Neitsytsaari island as part of the Eastern Archipelago Route.

Malkasaari offers sauna access on three Wednesdays in July

On Malkasaari island, you can enjoy the sauna free of charge on three Wednesdays in July. The sauna will be heated on 9 July, 16 July and 23 July from 12:00 to 17:00. This is a mixed sauna operating on a non-stop basis, and swimwear is compulsory. The sauna can accommodate six people at a time, and we ask that you take turns in a friendly atmosphere so that everyone gets to enjoy the sauna.

On the northern shore of Malkasaari, there is a pier with about ten buoy berths. The shallow shores are ideal for kayakers to land, and there are sheltered sandy and gravelly beaches, especially on the northern side of the island. During the summer season, FRS Finland operates a ferry to Malkasaari island as part of the Eastern Archipelago Route.
