The health counselling point will open in the former daycare centre at Naapuritie 14. There are no other services in the building. The unit will operate on Naapuritie for one year, during which the future need for the service in the area will be assessed.
More extensive services for substance users are available at the Symppis centres in Itäkeskus and Sörnäinen.
The Kontula Health Counselling Point on Naapuritie will be open on weekdays from 10.00–15.00. It will offer clients health counselling and referrals to other substance abuse services. Clients can also exchange used equipment for clean ones at the service point, helping to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
The services of the health counselling point are free of charge and do not require an appointment.
The City of Helsinki is paying particular attention to ensuring that the surroundings of the health counselling point remain safe and clean. A security guard will be present throughout the opening hours. The City will also work closely with the police to maintain public safety and order in the area.
Health counselling points and Symppis centres are an important part of substance abuse services
Health counselling points and Symppis centres help the City reach vulnerable substance users. Every encounter is an opportunity to encourage clients to seek treatment and move towards a substance-free life.
Helsinki is currently preparing a substance abuse strategy to support the prevention and treatment of substance use. The City’s worsening drug situation also requires swift action – which Helsinki is now taking.
