New and newly renovated Heka subsidised housing to be completed in the autumn

Two new locations will be completed in Mellunmäki and Kalasatama. Two newly renovated locations will also be completed in Kontula and Toukola.

Heka is a city-owned housing company that owns over 50,000 state-subsidised apartments throughout Helsinki. Each year, the City of Helsinki allocates between 3,000 and 4,000 low-rent housing units to applicants showing the greatest need. Heka apartments do not charge security deposit, and leases are generally for an indefinite period.

Saariseläntie 1 will be completed in Mellunmäki in the end of October

The estimated completion time for the location is on 31 October. The application period will begin on 12 August. You can apply for the apartments by filling a housing application form. If you already have a valid application, you can add apartments by editing the application. You can find information on the apartments on our marketing site. The tenant selection will begin on 26 August at the earliest.

The building at Saariseläntie 1 has 37 apartments. The apartments are designed to be fully accessible. All apartments have a glazed balcony. Each apartment has a warm storage compartment in the basement. The kitchens are equipped with induction cookers, dishwashers and fridges. Some apartments have a walk-in closet.

The facilities shared by the residents include a laundry room, a drying room, a shared sauna, a club room and pram and outdoor equipment storages. There are parking spaces available in the car park shared by the whole block. The location also has bicycle storage spaces in the yard area and in the outdoor equipment storage rooms.

This location is considered urban infill, and it is right next to the border of Helsinki and Vantaa. There is a play park and a residential park nearby, among other things. The Mellunmäki metro station is less than one kilometre away, and several buses stop at Mellunmäentie nearby. The services are clustered around the metro station, and there are good opportunities for outdoor recreation in the area.

84 new apartments will be completed in Nihti, Kalasatama

The estimated completion time for the location is on 28 November. The application period will begin on 19 August. You can apply for the apartments by filling a housing application form. The tenant selection will begin on 3 September at the earliest.

The building has 84 apartments, ranging from cosy studio flats to five-room family apartments. Each apartment has a glazed balcony and some of the second-floor apartments have a patio. Kitchens are equipped with induction cookers, fridge-freezers and dishwashers. Each apartment also includes access to a heated storage compartment on the lowest floor of the building.

The building has plenty of useful common areas for residents. A laundry room with drying rooms, storage compartments, a civil defence shelter and storage rooms are located on the ground floor. On the top floor, there is a club room and a shared sauna. Parking spaces are located in the block's shared cold garage under the yard deck. Bicycles can be stored in the yard area and the storage rooms on the ground floor. The building has seven floors and three stairwells with lifts. The building and its apartments are accessible by design. Konttisatamankatu 8 is a non-smoking building. The building is equipped with a geothermal heating system.

The area features excellent public transport and cycling and walking connections. You can easily get around the capital by metro, tram and bicycle. The wide range of services in Kalasatama and the Redi shopping centre are a short walk away. The sea and Mustikkamaa island, ideal for long walks, are right next door.

The second phase of the renovation in Sakara 2 will be completed in early October

The estimated completion time for the second phase of the renovation in Sakara 2 is 1 October.

You can apply for some of the apartments separately in late July. There is no separate application period for the apartments. You can apply for all of the apartments by submitting a housing application. If you want to apply for the specific apartments that are visible in our marketing site, you can add them to your application via the application form, by modifying an existing application or our marketing site.

There are around 100 apartments available in the buildings completed in October. The apartments range in size from 31-square-metre studios to 87-square-metre four-room apartments. All apartments have a glazed balcony. The kitchens are equipped with an induction cooker and a refrigerator-freezer.

The property has plenty of common facilities for residents, such as two shared saunas, two free laundry rooms with drying rooms, a club room and various storage facilities. Parking spaces are available in the southern part of the plot. Bicycles can be stored in the courtyards and the bicycle storage facilities on the ground floor.

The first phase of the renovation was completed in March 2024 and the second phase in autumn 2025. The renovation improved housing comfort, accessibility and energy efficiency. The building services were upgraded to meet the needs of modern housing. Common areas for residents, such as laundry rooms and club rooms, were renovated. The apartments underwent a complete overhaul.

Sakara 2 is a property located in Kontula, along Kontulankaari. The neighbourhood has excellent public transport connections: a bus stop is located almost on the property along Kontulankaari. Most of the area's services can be found in and around the Kontula shopping centre, including grocery stores, a pharmacy, a health centre, a swimming hall, a library and a youth centre. The nearest grocery store is about half a kilometre away. The Vesala sports park is right next door.

The first phase of renovations in Toukola completed in the end of October

The estimated completion time for the first part of renovations at Hämeentie 122 is 29 October. The second phase of the renovation will be completed later in the year.

The apartments in Hämeentie 122 cannot be applied for separately. You can apply for apartments in the location by filling a housing application.

There are around a 100 apartments available in the first phase of renovations, ranging from 34-square-metre studios to 56-square-metre two-bedroom apartments. The renovation will provide bright and functional homes that combine charming 1950s architecture with the comforts of modern housing. In the renovation, all apartments undergo a major overhaul: the surfaces and furniture are renovated, the bathrooms are widened and walk-in closets are added to some apartments. Most of the apartments are equipped with glazed balconies, in addition to which the buildings also have airing balconies.

The buildings are nine storeys high and equipped with lifts, which are also part of the renovation. The buildings have useful common facilities such as a free laundry room, sauna facilities for residents and a club room.

The buildings are located along Hämeentie in the green and atmospheric Toukola, next to the Arabia district with its wide range of services and excellent transport connections around Helsinki.

How to apply for an apartment in a new Heka building

If you already have a valid housing application, you can add new apartments to your application by editing your application during the application period. One third of new apartments are reserved for Heka residents who want to change apartments.

Fun facts about Heka apartments

  • Heka does not charge a security deposit from residents.
  • Heka’s lease agreements are valid until further notice. The period of notice of the lease agreements for residents is one calendar month.
  • All new Heka buildings are non-smoking.
  • Each apartment in a new building has its own water meter, and they charge for the water based on consumption.
  • Pets are welcome in Heka apartments and there is no need to report them separately.
  • Heka’s locations have versatile facilities shared by the residents, such as laundry rooms that are free of charge as well as clubrooms and shared saunas.

Please note that Heka tenant selection uses income limits according to a government ruling which came to effect in the beginning of 2025. The income limits are used both for new tenants and those changing from one Heka apartment to another.
