Construction work in preparation next to Myllypuro Health and Wellbeing Centre – Services to continue as normal

A five-storey expansion will be built to the Myllypuro Health and Wellbeing Centre (Jauhokuja 4). The access route to Myllypuro Metro Station will also be renewed in connection to this. The preparations for the construction work will start in June 2025. The aim is to have the expansion ready for use in 2028.

The preparatory work will start with fencing off the worksite and the earthworks. A temporary pedestrian route will later be built on the bridge going over the metro tracks. The construction work will start with the demolition of the ticket hall in autumn 2025.

The familiar social and healthcare services will be available as normal in the current building even during the construction. Clients may visit the centre and use the services as before.

The metro will continue to operate as normal until further notice. The arrangements for the pick-up and drop-off traffic to the Health and Wellbeing Centre will also remain normal.

Some access routes to change:

Pedestrians will be guided to alternative routes during the construction (map below). Parking along Myllypurontie will not be possible next to the worksite. The metro’s bicycle parking facilities will be moved to the other side of the Jauhokuja bridge.

Some noise can be expected due to construction

The worksite will aim to minimise disruptions, but construction will inevitably lead to some noise, vibration and dust. Installation of pile walls, excavation and piling are some of the loudest work phases. These actions are estimated to last from June to about the end of the year 2025.

Work that generates the most noise will be carried out on weekdays between 7:00 and 18:00. However, some work at metro site may also take place at the worksite during the night and on weekends.

Improving services as the goal

The health and wellbeing services of East Helsinki will be centralised at two locations in the future: Vuosaari and Myllypuro. A smaller local service point is planned for Kontula.
An expanded centre would allow for offering multi-professional services under one roof and will improve timely access to treatment. In 2028, the aim is that the Myllypuro Centre can provide the following services:
•    health station services
•    dental care
•    physiotherapy and occupational therapy
•    nutritional therapy and podiatry
•    social services for youth and adults
•    basic mental health and substance abuse services
•    outreach services of specialised medical care (e.g. diabetes centre)
•    service guidance for the elderly
•    laboratory and x-ray imaging services
•    café/restaurant

The services of Kontula and Kivikko health stations will be transferred to Myllypuro when the construction project has been completed. By 2035, the centre will serve an estimated 80,000 residents.

The centre’s personnel, clients and the local residents have been actively involved in developing the centre for several years.
