The event, organised at Cultural Centre Vuosaari House from 10.00 to 18.00 on 23 May, gathers together Helsinki’s circular economy operators and partners to meet residents of all ages and organise workshops and other activities.

During the day, you can learn more about circular economy from the point of view of maintaining your bicycle, equipment you can borrow from the library, composting, furniture upholstery, surface treatment, sewing shops, clothes care and prolonging the life of your clothes.

At the workshops, you can create pins from recycled and surplus materials, a worry doll or a piece of the community wall rug, repair a sweater or renew a t-shirt or tote bag by printing or embroidering. Get competitive by playing a sorting game, in which you throw waste and droppings into the correct recycling bins.

The event is organised by the City of Helsinki together with HSY, recycling centre Pääkaupunkiseudun kierrätyskeskus, sewing shop Kati Koski Tmi and upholstery shop Verhoomo Pihka.

One focus point of the City of Helsinki’s City Strategy is ambitious climate objectives and nature conservation. A key way to promote this is through the circular and sharing economy. Helsinki’s comprehensive Action Plan for the Circular and Sharing Economy was completed in 2023. The focus areas of the plan are construction, procurement, environmental awareness and sustainable consumption.
