Barrier and recreational structures to Kruunuvuorenlampi nature reserve

Barrier and recreational structures will be built on the Kruunuvuorenlampi nature reserve during summer and autumn 2023 in accordance with the maintenance and use plan of the area. The structures include a wide duckboard route, two viewing platforms on the shore of the pond and stairs. The Kruunuvuorenlampi nature reserve is located in Kruunuvuori in western Laajasalo.

A residential area is being built for 13,000 people in the immediate vicinity of the Kruunuvuorenlampi pond, and the future Crown Bridges will make Kruunuvuori easier to access also from the city centre. This means a significant increase in the number of users which we need to consider proactively in order to preserve the special characteristics of the nature reserve.

The structures are built to prevent wear and tear of the area and to guide the increasing recreational use. The duckboards around the pond will be built in a jetty-like manner so that it is possible to pass others and use prams safely.

The viewing platforms on the shore will make it possible – even for groups – to observe nature and take breaks. The stairs leading up the slopes from the pond prevent erosion and make the passage to the recreational route outside the nature reserve safe.

The construction will cause momentary disturbance to the users of the area. Some routes will have to be closed for the duration of the construction. The Zatopekinsuora route on the eastern side of the pond will be open throughout the construction.

The City of Helsinki Environmental Services has ordered the construction which will be implemented by the City of Helsinki Construction Services Stara.
