The City awards grants for welfare and health promotion, social welfare and health care and rescue services for activities that support the objectives of the current City Strategy and welfare and health promotion plan. The City may also award grants for activities linked to accident prevention, rescue operations or civil defence. The City awards resident participation grants for the maintenance of community centres and the coordination of their activities, as well as for the development of structures and methods that improve residents' participation.

The City as a partner for organisations

Organisations, associations and foundations are important partners for Helsinki. Through organisations, Helsinki residents participate and are involved in building a city where everyone can live the life they want with functional everyday routines.

In addition to grants, Helsinki supports the operating conditions of organisations by providing premises for use by residents and organisations. City residents and organisations can book facilities for their activities through the newly revamped Varaamo service.

Helsinki has an Advisory Board for Organisations, which regularly brings together elected representatives and organisations around the same table. The Advisory Board was established in 2023, and you can follow its activities on the website.

Helsinki also organises open events to strengthen cooperation between organisations and the City as well as between organisations.

“We extend a warm welcome to new partners, as there are more than 17,000 organisations in Helsinki!” says Veera Vilkama, Organisation Cooperation Development Manager.
