Utilising the growth potential of the maritime cluster

In 2029, the maritime industry and its associated subcontracting chains will form a key part of Helsinki’s economy, both as a source of employment and as an internationally recognised hub for winter seafaring, maritime technology expertise, ship design know-how, marine ecosystem health and business activities. The maritime cluster will be well placed to continue its growth in the city based on competence and new innovations.

In particular, we will promote the achievement of the target state by the following means:

  1. We will reinforce the image of Helsinki as a maritime city. Together with our partners, we will work towards establishing a maritime innovation centre in Helsinki, the key objectives of which will be to position Helsinki as a leading competence cluster for winter seafaring, to enhance the maritime sector’s image as an employer, and to support the competitiveness of industry players through innovation activities and networking.
  2. We will facilitate innovation services for the business development and growth of businesses linked to the maritime cluster. The key areas of focus include, in particular, winter seafaring, future forms of energy, maritime safety and new business opportunities related to the wellbeing of the oceans.
