The Swimming Stadium and Kumpula outdoor swimming pools start the summer season in Helsinki

Outdoor swimming pools are an essential part of the summer in Helsinki. For many, the opening of the Swimming Stadium signals the beginning of the summer. This year, the Swimming Stadium opens on Mother’s Day Sunday 14 May at 9.00. The Swimming Stadium will be open until 10 September. The Kumpula outdoor swimming pool is open from 21 May to 20 August 2023.

Filling the pools at the Swimming Stadium began on Sunday 7 May due to the renovation of the pools. It will take about 4–5 days for the pools to be full and then it will take about 5–7 days for the water to reach the temperature of 27 degrees Celsius. This means that at the start of the season, some pools might be slightly cooler.

In honour of the opening of the Swimming Stadium and Mother's Day, there is a free coffee service for the first 100 customers. There will also be two water gym classes that are included in the entrance fee to the outdoor swimming pool. The first water gym class will be held at 10.00 and the second at 12.00 in the diving pool. The water gym classes held in the diving pool last 45 minutes each and the maximum number of participants is 50 people.

During the opening day, the party songs at the Swimming Stadium are played by DJ RNo whose name is known both in Finland and abroad. The smooth set played by DJ RNo is a medley of new hit songs and old classics. DJ RNo will start playing music first thing in the morning, and the relaxing playlist will continue throughout the day.

The Swimming Stadium has also been prepared for summer. The entrance has been renovated and new bike racks have been installed in front of the Swimming Stadium. The outdoor swimming pool area also features popular activities from previous summers, such as a diverse outdoor gym, an outdoor floorball rink, basketball and volleyball courts, table tennis facilities, an indoor gym, a giant chess board, children’s play areas and picnic tables with game boards. You can also borrow floorball, basketball and beach volleyball equipment and things such as chess pieces, against a deposit. There will be no hungry visitors at the Swimming Stadium; the café restaurant will once again be open for the summer.

Kumpula outdoor swimming pool to be opened to urban rhythms

The Kumpula outdoor swimming pool will be opened a week after the Swimming Stadium, on Sunday 21 May at 9.00. The agreeable outdoor swimming pool and both its indoor and outdoor facilities have been prepared for summer. The opening day of Kumpula will be led by the rap artist Stoge who will perform three sets. The sets of the energetic artists will be held at Kumpula at 14.00, 16.30 and 19.30.

The Kumpula outdoor swimming pool is also in tip-top shape for the summer. In addition to pools, Kumpula has a basketball and beach volleyball courts, a high-quality outdoor gym, table tennis facilities, picnic areas and children’s play areas. More picnic tables have now been installed in the area, and you can also play games like chess and ludo at Kumpula.
