Based on the OmaStadi vote held in March, the City of Helsinki will implement 54 proposals submitted by residents. More than 31,000 Helsinki residents cast their vote in OmaStadi, bringing the voter turnout to 5.1 per cent. The total budget for the projects is EUR 10 million.
In the ongoing fourth OmaStadi round, saunas and swimming areas in particular received the most votes from Helsinki residents, with a wide range of related projects being implemented across the city. Thanks to OmaStadi, the number of public saunas in Helsinki has increased a great deal, and this time, five sauna-related proposals proceeded to the implementation phase. As in previous rounds, Helsinki residents voted for more trees and green areas, cleanliness and outdoor gyms.
“This time, many proposals aimed at young people, such as a young people’s night café in East Helsinki and outreach youth work in Herttoniemi, were among the favourites of Helsinki residents. A proposal aimed at children and young people was selected in almost every major district,” says Development Manager Kirsi Verkka.
OmaStadi projects are developed together with residents
The proposals that received the most votes in this year’s OmaStadi vote will be implemented in the autumn. Before that, residents and City specialists will work together to plan the implementation of the projects.
“After the vote, in the co-development phase, Helsinki residents will have a say on how the proposals with the most votes are implemented in practice,” says Participation Manager Johanna Stadius.
An open development event for Helsinki residents will be held on 27 May 2026 at 17.30–19.30 at Helsinki Central Library Oodi (no advance registration required). Helsinki residents can also comment on the proposals on the OmaStadi website from 20 April to 1 June 2026.
“The great thing about OmaStadi is that Helsinki residents are involved in every stage of the process, from brainstorming to implementation,” Stadius continues.
