The new Helsinki resident weighed 3 205 g and was 53 cm long at birth.
As is tradition, Mayor Daniel Sazonov visited the family and the new baby at the Women’s Hospital on the morning of Helsinki Day.
“I would like to wish this new Helsinki resident and the entire family much happiness and joy in the years ahead. The tradition of the Helsinki Day baby highlights the fact that Helsinki is a city for children. It is important that every child born in Helsinki has the opportunity to grow up safely and enjoy a happy childhood in their hometown,” Sazonov says.
The family received a bodysuit and a beanie by the Finnish brand Metsola as a gift. The parents also received a letter of congratulations, according to which the baby will receive a gift cheque of €300 as soon as the baby has been baptised or entered into the population register.
The tradition of congratulating the first baby of Helsinki Day has been ongoing for 60 years: the first Helsinki Day baby was celebrated in 1965.
