Preparations for Helsinki NGO Advisory Board proceed in cooperation with NGOs – Voice your opinion

In accordance with the decision taken by the Helsinki City Board’s Division for the Reform of Social Welfare, Health Care and Rescue Services on 6 June 2022, cooperation between the city and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will be promoted by means of a network-based model coordinated by the City Executive Office.

It is proposed to establish a city-level NGO Advisory Board in Helsinki to promote cooperation with NGOs, along with division-level NGO advisory boards as necessary.

On 1 November, a workshop for the development of cooperation with NGOs brought together 60 organisations to the City Hall Event Square. Those invited to the event included organisations working in cooperation with all city divisions and the central administration.

Deputy Mayor Daniel Sazonov opened the event by describing the City of Helsinki’s desire to strengthen the structures of cooperation between the city and organisations and make them windproof. A presentation was then heard on the tasks of the NGO Advisory Board and the principles for the selection of its members, which the organisations then discussed in more detail in small groups. The small groups also discussed good practices in cooperation between the city and organisations as well as the role of organisations in promoting well-being and health.

Grants, facilities, communication and equal treatment of small and large organisations were central themes in the discussions on cooperation between the city and organisations.

The draft task description of the NGO Advisory Board and the principles for the appointment of its members can also be commented on in a survey available in the Kerro Kantasi service from 7 to 18 November 2022. The survey is available in Finnish, Swedish and English.
