The City of Helsinki will be enhancing the maintenance of the park area and forest stand in Diakoniapuisto Park. The intention is to tidy up the park in Kallio, next to Alppiharju, by employing measures such as removing young trees and scrub. Work is due to start in the week beginning on 19 October.

Going forward, rubbish will be cleared from the park and brushwood removed on a regular basis. In addition to this, no deadwood will be left in the park. There are no plans to fell large trees.

Maintenance exceeding the City’s standard policy has been deemed to be necessary in Diakoniapuisto Park due to public disturbance issues. Dense thickets and other undergrowth reduce visibility and make it difficult to surveil the park.

Indeed, many people who spend time in the area have said that they feel unsafe in the park and its surroundings. The police also want to tackle public disturbances more effectively than at present.
