The City of Helsinki will begin vaccinating local residents who will turn 85 this year or are already older, as well as their informal carers, on Monday 1 February. Elderly persons born in 1936 or earlier can make a vaccination appointment at coronavaccination-en.hel.fi or by calling the appointment booking line 09 310 46300. The appointment booking number is available on weekdays 8:00–18:00. The service will open today.
The electronic appointment booking service is the same for all municipalities in the Uusimaa region and has been provided by the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa. On Tuesday 26.1 the appointment booking system showed some users that all the vaccination appointment times would have been reserved. This technical error has now been fixed. We apologise for the inconvenience.
Informal carers can currently book appointments by telephone only.
Initially, vaccines will be administered by appointment in Jätkäsaari, Malmi and Myllypuro. More details on vaccination points and other questions related to the coronavirus vaccinations are available at
“We will administer the vaccines in the order specified by the national decisions and policies. In addition to persons born in 1936 and earlier, vaccines will also be administered to informal carers who have been deemed eligible for informal care allowance,” says Medical Director of Health Stations Timo Lukkarinen.
“We will begin the vaccinations at three locations, and a fourth vaccination point will be added later. The capacity of the appointment booking line is high, but we hope that everyone will be patient – especially early on. We also request those who are not yet scheduled for vaccination to keep the telephone line free and wait for their turn,” Lukkarinen adds.
More than 2,000
seniors to be vaccinated next week
In the week beginning on 1 February, slightly more than 2,000 doses will be available for vaccinating the elderly. There are approximately 14,000 Helsinki residents born in 1936 or earlier.
“At the moment, the quantity of available vaccines is fairly low. The vaccination process will progress as new vaccines are received. We do not yet have the specifics on how many vaccines will be received and how quickly the vaccination process will advance. A deciding factor is the decision on the sales permit of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is expected to be made towards the end of this week,” says Director of Health and Substance Abuse Services Leena Turpeinen.
All elderly persons will receive a notification of the vaccination to their home address. Persons aged 85 and above will receive the notification at the end of this week or the beginning of the next one. Helsinki residents aged 70 and above will receive a vaccination notification to their home address when it is their turn to get vaccinated. Older Helsinki residents will also be called directly to provide information about the coronavirus vaccinations. The aim is to reach seniors as comprehensively as possible.
Home care customers
to be notified by home care workers
Home care customers will be informed of the vaccinations by their home care nurses. Depending on the situation, they will be offered the vaccine either at a vaccination point or at home. Residents of sheltered housing units will also be vaccinated on-site. They should confirm with the care staff as to whether or not they will receive the vaccine at the sheltered housing unit.
