The dilapidated old buildings in Malmi will be replaced with modern and comfortable facilities. A total of five buildings will be built on two plots at Riihenkulma 2 and 4, designed to meet the needs of the various activities of the children's home and social services for families. A storage building will also be built on the plot.

Trees felled at Riihenkulma 2 before construction starts

Construction has started with the demolition of the existing premises and earthworks at Riihenkulma 4. In August 2025, the works will be extended to the adjacent Riihenkulma 2 plot, where trees will be felled before the earthworks begin.

Where possible, efforts have been made to save trees. A narrow wooded area is preserved in front of the plot near Vanha Helsingintie. Trees are also preserved in and around the courtyard. New trees, shrubs and perennials will be planted in the courtyards of both plots once the buildings are completed.

Noise from construction on weekdays

Work on the site is mainly carried out on weekdays from 7:00 to 18:00 in accordance with City guidelines. The work has been planned to allow for minimal noise emissions in the neighbourhood.

The majority of worksite transport is routed through Riihenkulma. Adjacent roads will not be closed due to construction. Any temporary traffic arrangements will be announced by street signs.

The main contractor for the construction project is VM Suomalainen Oy.
