Adults have a responsibility to strengthen children’s and young people’s right to be heard and to express their opinions without fear of repercussions. The HURT toolkit provides support for situations where difficult experiences need to be identified, addressed and discussed.

Short films are based on true stories

In addition to the guide on bullying violence, the toolkit includes three short films: Hurt at Hobbies, Hurt at Home and Hurt in Memories. Based on true stories, the films give voice to experiences that may be difficult to talk about.

The short films and the related questions guide discussions on safe encounters, fair conduct, recognising one’s own boundaries, and taking care of oneself and others

Material can be used at school and in hobbies

The HURT toolkit is primarily intended for adults who work with children and young people, such as teachers, hobby instructors and coaches.

The material can be used, for example, in discussions and training sessions among adults in clubs, schools and other communities. It can help identify bullying violence, consider how to organise safe activities and strengthen shared practices.

The material can also be used with children and young people. The short films and question cards can support joint discussions on, for example, what being bullied, oppressed or treated unfairly. feels like, how to intervene in such situations and where to get help.

The HURT toolkit is available in Finnish, Swedish and English.

HURT was created in cooperation with young people and professionals

The HURT toolkit was produced in cooperation with the City of Helsinki’s Wellbeing Promotion Services, Harjula Setlementti ry’s Support Centre for Bullying Issues Valopilkku, the Family Federation of Finland’s Et ole yksin! (‘You are not alone!’) service, and Espoo Circus and Theatre School Esko. The materials also feature contributions by professionals of the field, media students and trainees as well as volunteering young people and adults.
