Recruitment fair provided young people with connections to working life

Helsinki Vocational College (Stadin AO) and Helsinki Employment Services organised a Meet & Greet recruitment fair for the first time as a collaboration. The event served as a gateway to working life for young people and brought together around 400 students and 15 employers.

At the Meet & Greet event, students can feel more at ease talking to employers, while businesses can find new talent.

Stadin AO and Helsinki Employment Services wanted to bring students and employers together face-to-face before the students’ graduation. The Meet & Greet recruitment fair was held for the first time as a collaboration at the Roihupelto campus on 7 October 2026.

At the fair, students had an opportunity to meet employers, find out about job and internship opportunities, and learn about job search services. The event was attended by 15 employers, several teachers from Stadin AO and an estimated 400 young people.

The attending employers presented their operations and job opportunities, and forged links with future professionals. The invitees included students from more than ten different fields, such as electrical engineering, automation, building services engineering, security, logistics, social welfare and health care and production.

For a young person, an encounter can open up their first route into working life

Students are interested in internship and summer job opportunities while they are still studying. As graduation approaches, employer contacts become increasingly important, as these encounters can help students find a fixed-term or permanent job and take their first step in their chosen field. At the fair, the young people were motivated to find work, a training agreement or an apprenticeship.

Stadin AO and Helsinki Employment Services planned and organised the event together. Helsinki Employment Services was represented at the fair by staff from Ohjaamo, employer services and personal client services.

We advised young people on job-seeking, creating a job search profile and utilising other services designed to support employment. We also informed employers about the City’s recruitment services and financial support granted to help with hiring jobseekers.

Employers need connections with future talent

From an employer’s perspective, collaboration with educational institutions and Employment Services helps businesses get in touch with students before they graduate.

For employers, the event provided an opportunity to raise their company’s profile, communicate about their work duties and build a network of future talent. Companies could take part with their own exhibition stand or present their activities directly to students in their field.

Marketing Manager Noora Varis from Peltitarvike Oy is thankful for the opportunity to take part in the event. According to her, the event provided an excellent way to strengthen cooperation with the educational institution. Varis hopes that her company sparked the students’ interest as a potential future employer.

“Both Peltitarvike in Helsinki and Teräsmiehet in Kerava regularly have metalworking students as interns on the production side, and it was great to meet several students and teachers face-to-face for the first time in the premises of Stadin AO.”

In their partnership, Stadin AO and Helsinki Employment Services bring together vocational training, information from businesses regarding future talent needs, and guidance for young people. Education Manager Jukka Pitkänen from Stadin AO and Senior Specialist Ulla Juhanko from Employment Services are happy about the power of collaboration and the mutual added value that it brings:

“As many students as possible can find employment, and as few as possible end up as clients of Employment Services. A perfect win-win situation!”
