A bridge solution in Humallahti was previously considered the primary alternative in planning. However, this has since been abandoned, because a way to solve the safety concerns expressed by the Prime Minister’s Office regarding the solution could not be found in the conversations with the Prime Minister’s Office.
‘We will continue based on the Paciuksenkatu alternative. It is important for Helsinki to create a safe and efficient traffic environment for everyone. The cycling connection on Paciuksenkatu can be developed to function better than it now does,’ says City of Helsinki Traffic and Street Planning Manager Reetta Putkonen.
The plan includes widening the current pedestrian and cycling path in order to make using them safer and more flexible. The Baana route in the hill on Seurasaarentie is intended to be made less steep than it is at present. The plan has also been coordinated with the plans for the Oksakoskenpolku parking garage. Proceeding with the Paciuksenkatu line is currently estimated to require approximately 120 trees to be cut down. However, further planning aims to find ways to reduce the number of trees to be cut down.
The City of Helsinki will initiate the drafting of a street plan for Paciuksenkatu. The Urban Environment Committee will make the decision on the street plan in 2027. The further schedule for the decision-making process will be clarified as the planning progresses.
