Historic market halls resume operations

Beginning June first, all three of Helsinki’s indoor markets will resume normal operations.

The City of Helsinki’s iconic brick indoor markets, the Old Market Hall in the city centre and the Hietalahti Market Hall and the Hakaniemi Market Hall in other parts of the city, will resume normal operations in early June.

The opening hours will be updated on each of the locations’ websites, with some variance possible among the shops and restaurants operating in the facilities.

In order to reduce the risk of infection, food establishments in the indoor markets will reduce the number of customer seats and staff will make sure customers can maintain appropriate distances from others during their visit.

The opening hours and operations of the Old Market Hall and Hakaniemi Market Hall were cut back this spring in response to the coronavirus outbreak. The Hietalahti Market Hall was closed completely, although some of the hall’s businesses continued to provide take-away food.

Flea markets traditionally arranged at the Hietalahti and Hakaniemi locations will not take place this summer, for safety reasons. All other outdoor market activities will continue normally.
