Vuoden Kokki and Vuoden Tarjoilija bring together the professionals, future talents, and influencers of Finnish food culture. The partnership supports Helsinki’s ambition to become an even more attractive food, restaurant, and event city while reinforcing its role as a key stage for Finnish gastronomy.

“Vuoden Kokki and Vuoden Tarjoilija partnership is a natural continuation of the work through which we are developing Helsinki into a stronger, more vibrant, and internationally appealing food city together with businesses, educational institutions, and the public sector,” says Nina Vesterinen, Tourism Director for the City of Helsinki.

“Vuoden Kokki and Vuoden Tarjoilija are the most prestigious competitions in the industry, showcasing excellence in the restaurant sector and inspiring new talent to join the profession. This year once again, several highly skilled chefs and waiters from Helsinki restaurants are among the finalists. When food culture has a strong presence in the cityscape and public discussion, it benefits the entire city, including businesses, residents, and visitors. That is why we want to help build the future of Finnish gastronomy and foster innovation together with industry stakeholders. At this year’s event, we aim to encourage new service innovations by supporting collaboration between restaurant and food tech operators,” Vesterinen continues.

Vuoden Kokki and Vuoden Tarjoilija strengthen the attractiveness of the restaurant sector

Through the partnership, industry success stories, future talents, and the international competitiveness of Finnish gastronomy will be highlighted. At the same time, it will help increase the appreciation and attractiveness of the restaurant sector as a career choice.

“Restaurants are a vital part of an attractive city and a thriving food culture. Our previous city partnerships have demonstrated how effectively food culture can bring together professionals, residents, and efforts to develop urban vitality. Partnering with the City of Helsinki gives us an opportunity to further strengthen this impact,” says Emilia Santavuori, Director of Assortment & Marketing at Wihuri Metro-tukku.

“Vuoden Kokki and Vuoden Tarjoilija shine a spotlight on the very best professionals in Finland’s restaurant industry while providing role models for future talent. At the same time, we highlight the sector’s significance to society’s vitality and strengthen understanding of the restaurant industry as an important part of Finnish expertise, culture, and business.”

Metro-tukku is the main organiser of the Vuoden Kokki and Vuoden Tarjoilija competitions. The final of the 2026 competitions will take place in October in connection with the Viini & Ruoka event.
