The Chinese New Year will be celebrated in Helsinki again on Monday, 31 January, when the year of the Ox turns into the year of the Tiger. In addition to the festive programme that will be available online, people can admire numerous ice sculptures around the city.

The festival, which has been held on the Kansalaistori Square in recent years with the accompanying temple fair, will go online this year, and there will also be ice sculptures on the subject of the year of the Tiger on display across the city. The ice sculptures can be admired on Keskuskatu and in the courtyards of the City of Helsinki's cultural centres Annantalo, Kanneltalo, Maunula House, Vuosaari House and Stoa.

Viewers can enjoy the Chinese New Year ambience and traditions in Beijing broadcast on the Helsinki Channel and on the event website. The programme will include music performances, kung fu, Beijing Opera and demonstrations of Chinese New Year handicrafts.

According to Chinese astrology, the year of the Tiger promotes courage and openness to change. According to tradition, the tiger energy that is characteristic to this king of the animals can take over people and make them active during the year.
