The project involves the renovation and modernisation of the main building of Pitäjänmäki Comprehensive School (Viinenkuja 6), which was completed in 1954, as well as the construction of two new buildings to replace the extension that is currently being demolished. The new multi-purpose building will house Pitäjänmäki Comprehensive School, the Taneli daycare centre, Pitäjänmäki Library and Youth Centre, as well as a new sports hall.
Demolition work will begin on 1 July and be completed by the beginning of October, at which point earthworks, excavation and quarrying will begin on the site. The project is expected to be completed by the 2029 autumn semester.
Dust and noise may occur
Loud work is generally carried out on weekdays between 7.00 and 18.00. Dust and noise may carry over into the surrounding area, but the aim is to keep any disruption to a minimum.
Site traffic is routed along Viinenkuja and Turkismiehentie, and there may be temporary changes to traffic arrangements.
The demolition work will mainly be carried out from the Turkismiehentie side. Turkismiehenpolku will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists in July and August, and again later during construction while work phases involving lifting are taking place.
Consti Korjausrakennus Oy is responsible for the demolition work as the project’s main contractor.
The school, library, youth centre and daycare centre will operate in temporary premises
The Pitäjänmäki comprehensive school, library, youth centre, and the after-school activities at Playground Nuoli, as well as the Mestari daycare centre, which were previously based on the site, will continue to operate from temporary premises.
The sports park, changing rooms and parking area next to the school will continue to operate normally throughout the project.
