Throughout the spring and summer, northeast Helsinki has seen stages of the demolition of the old Suutarila multi-purpose building, built in 1981. At the moment, the casting work of the foundation and civil defence shelter are being carried out on the side of Suutarilantie meanwhile earthworks are done in the whole area. The first parts of the above-ground part of the new multi-purpose building will be seen on the site towards the end of August.

Worksite traffic will increase

The start of actual construction will be reflected in increased construction traffic in the area, as more materials will be transported via the secondary routes on Suutarilantie and Seulastentie. The work will be carried out mainly on weekdays between 7:00 and 19:00, and will be carried out in a way that causes as little disturbance to the environment and the neighbourhood as possible. Some construction work will be exceptionally carried out in the evenings and partly at weekends.

The contractor for the multi-purpose building is SRV. The building will be implemented as a life-cycle project, which means that SRV will be responsible for the design, construction, maintenance and servicing of the building for 20 years after completion.

The new building is expected to be completed by autumn 2027 at the latest.
