The renovation of the play area for older children in Playground Kimmo was started in April. The plans for the area north of the playground building include in-ground trampolines, a balancing path, a rotating climbing frame with nets, an outdoor instrument imitating a kantele, a pike figure and swings. At the same time, the lighting of the area will be renewed.
A large multi-purpose climbing frame with slides and various climbing spots is also planned for the playground. The multi-purpose climbing frame was ordered well in advance in the winter, but the importer and equipment manufacturer reported a supply problem in June, which delayed the arrival of the equipment.
Due to the delay, some of the construction work will only be carried out in the autumn. However, we are trying to make sure that as much of the playground as possible is available for use by 31 July 2025.
The installation of the multi-purpose climbing frame has not been scheduled yet. It is possible that the frame will only be installed in October during school autumn break.
The developer and the contractor are sorry for any inconvenience caused to users by the delay.
Park renovated in phases
The renovation of Playground Kimmo will be carried out in phases. The complete overhaul of the playground building was completed in 2024, and the renovation of the playground area for older children will be completed after the multi-purpose climbing frame has been installed.
The renovation of the other parts of the park will begin in 2028 or 2029. At that time, the park will receive new plants, the access routes and the paddling pool will be repaired and new exercise equipment will be installed. The playground will also receive a games arena with basketball hoops and ball game goals. Previously removed play equipment, such as the ‘Froebel gifts,’ the wooden car and the wooden horses, will be returned to the park. In addition to this, new lighting, seating, tables and rubbish bins will be added to the area.
