How to apply?
Startup grants for entrepreneurs are awarded by Employment and Economic Development Offices (TE Offices) or for customers of municipal employment experiment in Helsinki by City of Helsinki. You must apply for a startup grant before you establish your business. The grant cannot be awarded if the full-time business activities have already started before the decision on the grant is made. Company funding and any business premises must be organised before the application is submitted.
You will need a business plan and profitability calculations for the application. In addition to this, you will also need to attach your CV, tax debt certificate, an agreement on your business premises (possibly preliminary) and any loan promises you may have. If you have any questions or you need help with completing the startup grant application, you should contact the TE Office: firstname.lastname@example.org (Link opens default mail program), or if you are a customer of a municipal employment experiment: email@example.com (Link opens default mail program).
Submit your application for a startup grant using the online services of TE Office (in Finnish) (Link leads to external service).
If you are unable to use the TE Office’s online services, download a printable form: TE Office’s printable form (doc) (Link leads to external service) or a printable form for customers of a municipal employment experiment (doc) (Link leads to external service).
In order to qualify for a startup grant, you must possess adequate skills for the intended business and entrepreneurship, have secured funding for your company and have sought out business premises, etc. You may not, however, be eligible for the grant if you have other income or you have bad credit, for example.
You can find more detailed information on the terms and conditions governing startup grants on the TE services website (Link leads to external service).
Startup grant is paid according to the payment period afterwards (payment period = one month). Apply for payment from the development and administration centre for ELY Centres and TE Offices (the KEHA Centre) (Link leads to external service) within two months from the expiration of the payment period.
Don’t forget the Start-Up Plus service
If you have been awarded a startup grant, you also have the option to utilise the Start-Up Plus service (Link leads to external service), which is a sales and marketing service for new businesses offered by Employment and Economic Development Offices.
