We cooperate with many educational institutions and universities and offer a range of training opportunities for students. If you are looking for a traineeship yourself, you can contact the person in charge of the organisation or office where you would like to complete your traineeship directly.
Theses
You can write the thesis included in your studies for the City of Helsinki. Contact the organisation you are interested in directly and tell us more about your ideas for a possible thesis.
Internships in the Social Services and Health Care Division
As a social welfare and health care student, you can apply for an internship in Jobiili (for students of universities of applied sciences) or get information about an internship from your teacher (e.g. practical nurse and care assistant students at vocational institutions). If you need more information, you can always contact your teacher.
University interns
The City offers internships lasting 3–6 months to master’s degree students. A university internship usually lasts three months and pays around €1,800/month. If your studies include a compulsory internship (e.g. for psychology students), the internship can be arranged for five or six months.

Helsinki Trainee programme
The Helsinki trainee programme is a team-based scheme that is designed to help you grow into an expert in your field while working on interesting projects. You will also get to know the different City divisions beyond the scope of your role, together with a group of other trainees.
The application period for Helsinki Trainee programme is open twice a year: in October and at the end of April/May. You can apply to the Helsinki Trainee programme if you are studying for a higher education degree (e.g. a master’s degree) and are nearing the completion of your studies or have graduated less than a year ago.

Introduction to working life, or TET
Introduction to working life, or TET, is part of the curriculum for every 7th–9th grade student in comprehensive school. During these periods, you will get to experience working life, see what kind of work is done in the City of Helsinki and think about whether the City could be your future workplace. We hope so! Maybe we will meet each other again when you work a summer job with the City after your TET period, for example?
