“We hope that Helsinki residents, especially those living in Koskela and the surrounding areas, and those otherwise interested in the topic will be able to attend. This is an excellent opportunity to make your voice heard," says Director of Senior Centres Maritta Haavisto.
Construction of the new senior centre has just begun. At the event, the City is particularly interested in hearing residents’ views on services open to all at Koskela Senior Centre, such as the café and restaurant services, volunteer activities and the gym for service centre clients.
“In particular, we want to hear the wishes of people living in the area: what kinds of services they would like to use and whether they would like to participate in our activities through volunteering, for example," says Director of Koskela Senior Centre Jaana Korpimies.
“Of course, we also want to raise awareness of senior centres and the services that we offer to seniors in Helsinki. Many people still don't know that, in addition to 24-hour service housing, we offer service centre services for seniors, including a free gym, peer support groups for different life situations, company and various leisure activities," she continues.
New construction projects around Helsinki – residents' events will continue to be organised
New service homes, senior centres and communal housing are currently being planned in a number of locations around the city.
“A new service home will be completed in Jakomäki next year. In Maunula, planning is currently underway on a new communal housing project and a new senior centre in the city centre. In other words, there is a lot going on, which we are very happy about,” says Director of Senior Centres Maritta Haavisto.
“The concept of residents' evenings is familiar from health and wellbeing centres, but we now want to extend the concept to senior services as well. We look forward to seeing what kind of interest the Koskela event will generate,” Haavisto continues.
The next residents' evening is planned to take place at Jakomäki Service Centre in spring 2026.
