During the transport suspension, trains will not stop at the Malminkartano station at all between 3 May and 6 September. The suspension will be slightly shorter at the Kannelmäki and Pohjois-Haaga stations. Trains will not stop at these stations between 1 June and 9 August.
Trains will depart at 20-minute intervals instead of the normal 10 minutes from 3 to 31 May and from 9 August to 6 September.
Providing a more welcoming environment at the three stations
The train stations were built in the 1970s, and although they have been renovated over the decades, some of the structures have reached the end of their service life. The work will clearly improve the overall appearance, pleasantness, accessibility and safety of the Malminkartano, Kannelmäki and Pohjois-Haaga stations compared to their current state.
The Malminkartano station will undergo concrete and rock repairs, and the murals in the tunnel will be overhauled. The benches, litter bins, plantings in the rock cut and lights outside the tunnel will also be overhauled. The lights inside the tunnel were already overhauled in the summer of 2024.
The Kannelmäki station building will be demolished. The concrete edge elements and surface structures of the platform area, as well as the overpass structures, will be overhauled. The lighting, signage and accessibility of the station will be improved.
At the Pohjois-Haaga station, the platform area and related technology will be renovated. The platform surface and lighting will be overhauled and the waterproofing of the platform structures will be repaired. The canopy and wall materials will be replaced and refurbished as necessary. The technical building services of the station building will be improved along with other structures, where necessary. Preparatory work will be carried out at the station in early 2026, but it will not affect transport operations. During the project, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency will also renovate the railway bridge adjacent to the station.
Railway work to also affect Espoo train services
In the summer of 2026, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, which is responsible for the railway network, will also renovate the urban railway bridge crossing Hämeenlinnanväylä between the Huopalahti and Ilmala stations. This will result in a transport suspension concerning not only the Ring Rail Line, but also the A train at the Valimo, Pitäjänmäki and Mäkkylä stations from the beginning of June to August, according to current estimates.
Additionally, train services west of Leppävaara will be completely suspended for five weeks after Midsummer due to the construction of the Espoo Rail Line, as in 2024 and 2025.
Buses to substitute for trains during the suspension
HSL will provide comprehensive public transport services even during the train suspension. During the suspension, buses 37, 40 and 400 will depart more frequently than at the moment. Additionally, the terminus of bus 52 will be moved from Kuninkaantammi to Myyrmäki.
Bus 401X will substitute for train transport between Myyrmäki and Pasila via Hämeenlinnanväylä, providing a connection to trains departing from Pasila.
Additionally, the terminus of bus 41 will be moved from Pohjois-Haaga to Malminkartano during the times when Malminkartano is the only station without train services. As a result of this change, Malminkartano will have a connection to the nearest Ring Rail Line station towards the city centre.
Other bus lines will operate normally during the suspension.
Information event regarding the renovation of the train stations
An information event regarding the renovation of the Pohjois-Haaga, Kannelmäki and Malminkartano train stations will be held at Kanneltalo on 26 March at 17.30. In addition to the station renovations, the event will also provide information on the exceptional public transport arrangements during the train service suspension. The event will be open to all.
