The renovation of the bridge between Iso Mustasaari and Susisaari islands will begin after Midsummer, and the work is set to last until autumn 2025. A temporary bridge will be built for the duration of the renovation approximately 70 metres from the current bridge.
The temporary bridge will serve all traffic. Access to properties, as well as access for emergency vehicles and maintenance traffic, will be made possible throughout the renovation. The construction of the temporary bridge will start at the end of May.
All services and sights in Suomenlinna will be accessible regardless of the worksite. The water bus piers in Tykistönlahti bay will also continue their normal operation.
The Susisaari bridge needs to be repaired because its planks are in poor condition. The wooden cover of the bridge will be replaced with a new and wider one, the shore supports widened, and the steel parts of the bridge repaired. Due to the painting of the steel parts, the work must be carried out during summer.
The worksite will affect water traffic
Water traffic connections between Varvilahti bay and Tykistönlahti bay will be closed for the duration of the bridge work. The route under the Susisaari bridge will be closed at the end of May and reopened in autumn.
There will be worksite traffic between the service quay and bridge site in Iso Mustasaari, particularly while the temporary bridge is being built in May, and when it is taken down in autumn.
The work will be carried out on weekdays between 7.00 and 18.00. Some stages of the project will generate some noise.
The contractor for the construction of the temporary bridge is Rajukivi Oy. The contractor for the renovation of the Susisaari bridge is RAPinsto Oy.
