The renovation of the bridge between Iso Mustasaari island and Susisaari island will begin mid-May and the work is set to last until autumn 2026. During the renovation, traffic will be diverted to the temporary bridge located approximately 70 metres from the Susisaari bridge.

The temporary bridge serves all traffic. Access to properties, as well as access for emergency vehicles and maintenance traffic, will be ensured throughout the renovation.

All services and sights in Suomenlinna will remain accessible regardless of the worksite. The water bus piers in Tykistölahti will also continue to operate as normal.

The Susisaari bridge needs to be repaired because its planks are in poor condition. The wooden cover of the bridge will be replaced with a new and wider one, the shore supports will be widened and the steel parts of the bridge will be repaired. Due to the painting of the steel parts, the work must be carried out during the summer.

Work on the bridge will continue to affect waterborne traffic

The water traffic route between Varvilahti bay and Tykistölahti bay running under the Susisaari bridge has been closed since last spring for safety reasons. The route will be reopened in the autumn once the temporary bridge is dismantled.

The work will be carried out on weekdays between 7.00 and 18.00. Some stages of the project will generate some noise. There will be worksite traffic between the maintenance pier and bridge site in Iso Mustasaari.

The bridge was originally due to be renovated in summer 2025, but due to procurement shortcomings, the contract was re-tendered. The temporary bridge was already built in spring 2025.

The contractor for the renovation is RAPinsto Oy.
