There are plans to build a floating sauna pavilion at the western edge of Tervasaari island in the Kruununhaka district. The building would house three saunas of different sizes, as well as changing rooms and lounge areas. On the roof of the building, there would be a lounge area open to everyone. The pavilion and its roof would offer views of the evening sun and the impressive cityscape. Next to the pavilion, there would be a swimming spot open to everyone throughout the year. The sauna will be built elsewhere and transported to the site by sea.

The application for a development reservation was submitted by Eemeli Nurminen and Jasper Pääkkönen, who are involved behind the scenes in a restaurant in Tervasaari. The sauna pavilion will expand the services offered by the existing restaurant on the island, and it will be supported by the restaurant’s operational activities.

The plans will be discussed with residents at the restaurant in Tervasaari on Monday 23 November from 18.00 to 19.30. Weather permitting, the event will conclude with a walk to see the planned location of the sauna pavilion on the island.

The application for a development reservation is due to be considered by the Urban Environment Committee in early 2027. The Economic Development Sub-committee of the City Board will then decide on the reservation. This will be followed by the initiation of a process to amend the local detailed plan in relation to the project.
