A project known as the Malmi School Campus is about to begin in Malmi, in which the current school building of Malmi Comprehensive School, the Pohjola building, completed in 1928, will be renovated, and a new building will be constructed adjacent to it. The comprehensive school will accommodate 700 learners, and the daycare centre will have space for 252 children.

Malmi Comprehensive School currently operates at three locations throughout Malmi. With the opening of the new school campus, all operations of the comprehensive school will move to Kirkonkyläntie 17, bringing together the classes currently housed in the temporary facility in the Kotinummentie pavilion and the pupils from the Talvelantie location.

The daycare centres currently located at Takaniitynpolku 1 (Takatasku) and Notkotie 12 (Ylä-Malmi) will be moving to the campus.

Sheltered yards and opportunities for evening use

The yard areas of the school and daycare centre will mainly be located in the sheltered eastern part of the property next to Laidunpuisto Park. The yard areas will be made into park-like spaces, fenced off and equipped to cater to different age groups. The yards will merge seamlessly with Laidunpuisto Park and be available for use by local residents outside of school hours.

Additionally, the school campus itself will have indoor spaces that can be reserved for evening use.

Aiming to start operations in the autumn term of 2028

Construction will begin with earthworks, followed by the actual building construction work. The aim is for the new facilities to be completed in the summer of 2028.

Work at the construction site will take place primarily on weekdays from 7.00 to 18.00. The work will generate noise and dust. Excavation work is expected to take place in July and August, during which time access to the area around the construction site will be restricted for safety reasons.

The City has selected Jalon Uusimaa Oy as the main contractor.

Many changes are coming to Malmi

Malmi is one of Helsinki's suburban regeneration areas. In addition to the Ylä-Malmi School Campus and the new hospital, family centre and health and wellbeing centre, plans are underway in Malmi for the modernisation of the 1960s school building located at Vanha Helsingintie 5 in Ala-Malmi. Malmi's parks and squares are also being improved, and the swimming hall is currently being expanded.
