The event is open to all and suitable for the whole family. In addition to planting summer flowers, the event programme includes music, refreshments and of course birthday cake, all enjoyed in a communal atmosphere. Summer flower planting bees have been organised in Karhupuisto Park since 1997, and this year marks the 30th anniversary of the event.
The Helsinki Fire Brigade Orchestra will entertain the volunteers with music during the event. You can listen to the orchestra's concert at 17.30–18.30 on the stage of the Kallio summer streets. Participating volunteers can also take a break from the planting to explore the equipment of the Central Rescue Station in the yard of Kallio Rescue Station.
Gardeners from Stara will be on-site to guide volunteers on how to plant the seedlings, so you do not need any previous experience in planting summer flowers. The planting equipment is provided by the City of Helsinki. Gloves are also available, but it is a good idea to bring your own if you have them.
You do not need to register in advance for the event – you can just turn up. Let's make the best summer flower planting in Helsinki together!
The summer flower planting bee is organised by the City of Helsinki Urban Environment Division in collaboration with Stara, Kallion kulttuuriverkosto and Kallio Parish.
