It was 30 years ago that summer flowers planted by volunteers first brought floral splendour to Karhupuisto Park. Over the years, Karhupuisto Park has become a communal meeting place and the heart of Kallio. On the 5th of August, we celebrate Karhupuisto Park!
The event will begin at 13.00 with the opening of the exhibition Karhupuisto – 30 vuotta asukkaiden olohuoneena (‘30 Years as the Residents’ Living Room’). The opening ceremony will take place in the accessible Kupolisali hall at Kallio Library, and the event will begin with an interview with Reijo Muuri, the man behind the idea of turning Karhupuisto Park into the residents’ living room. After the exhibition opening, the celebrations will move to the Kallio summer streets, where the programme includes a concert by Nallekopla, the children’s band of the Helsinki Police Symphonic Band, at 14.00 on Fleminginkatu, next to Karhupuisto Park. In addition to this, the event will feature activities such as the grilling of sausages, face painting and badge making. In the event of bad weather, the whole event will be held at Kallio Library.

The exhibition Karhupuisto – 30 vuotta asukkaiden olohuoneena (‘30 Years as the Residents’ Living Room’), which opens on the anniversary, is being put together in collaboration with the residents of Kallio. We are currently looking for photographs of Karhupuisto Park taken over the years for the exhibition. Share your photo with us and tell us about it in a few sentences.
