US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken visited Helsinki City Hall on Friday, 2 June to give a speech at an event arranged by the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA) in cooperation with the US Embassy in Finland and The City of Helsinki.

During his visit, Secretary Blinken met with Helsinki Mayor Juhana Vartiainen for a brief discussion. Among other things during the discussion, Mayor Vartiainen shared the many ways Finland’s capital city has supported Ukraine and the people fleeing the war who have arrived in Helsinki.

“It is a great honour for Helsinki to have had the opportunity to host this special high-level event and share a discussion with Secretary Blinken. We appreciate his visit to our capital. Helsinki is a city where history, innovation, freedom and diplomacy converge. Our capital is and has been an arena for many noteworthy meetings and political events. We are especially proud to have provided a platform for this historical occasion for the first time as the proud capital of a new NATO ally,” Mayor Vartiainen said.
