Helsinki is looking for traditional Christmas trees for Senate Square and Hakaniemi Market Hall

Residents of the Helsinki metropolitan area and surrounding municipalities can offer large, healthy Norway spruce trees growing on their own plots of land. The City will arrange for the tree to be felled and collected.

The City of Helsinki is once again looking for a Christmas tree for Senate Square and the area in front of Hakaniemi Market Hall. Residents of the Helsinki metropolitan area and surrounding municipalities can donate spruce trees growing on their land to help bring festive cheer to the community.

The City is looking for Norway spruce trees that have reached a respectable age, have full and healthy branches and are in good condition. The spruce on Senate Square should be 15–20 metres tall, and the one at Hakaniemi Market Hall 12–15 metres tall.

The City’s loggers will fell and transport the tree. At the same time, the donor is offered the chance to get rid of a spruce tree that has grown too large, free of charge. It is hoped that the tree is situated near a road that can accommodate heavy equipment.

Send a photo of your tree by email

Offers must be submitted by Monday 9 November at the latest. The Christmas tree is collected and taken to the market square around the middle of the following week. The traditional Aleksanterinkatu Christmas Street will open on Saturday 21 November, the same week.

You can offer your spruce tree by email to the contact persons listed below. Please include a photograph showing the tree in its natural environment and in its full size.
