Construction of sports facilities to begin next in Kaisaniemi Park

The renovation of Kaisaniemi Park will next focus on the construction of the final section of the Baana cycling route between the Kaisantunneli underpass and the Kaisaniemi field. Construction of new sports facilities will also start in the autumn.

The new sports facilities, including an obstacle course, a multi-purpose arena and ping-pong tables, will be built in the eastern part of the park, next to the new tennis courts.

The park will feature a new circular playground located on the north side of the pool. Its construction will start next summer. The playground will feature play equipment and surface materials appropriate to the historic site. This autumn, three apple trees and five autumn hydrangea bushes, as well as some hostas, will already be moved from the future playground area to new locations in the park.

A new dog enclosure will be completed by the end of June 2026 at the latest, next to Unioninkatu near the Botanic Garden.

Water supply work is set to start at the Kaisaniemi field. Water, electricity and telecommunications lines will be built on the site to serve event activities. The construction work will involve blasting, which may take place on weekdays between 7.00 and 18.00.

The park will be completed one section at a time

The renovation of Kaisaniemi Park started in 2023. Different sections of the park have been opened for use as they have been completed. The most recent section to be completed was the front area of the future entrance to the Botanic Garden at the end of June. The Svante Olsson playground, the Baana section from Kaisaniemenranta to the Kaisaniemi field and the surroundings of the Cajsan Helmi restaurant have also been completed at this point. The next section to be completed, by the end of 2025, is the Baana section north from the Kaisantunneli underpass.

The renovation of the park is scheduled to end at the end of 2027. After that, the project will involve changes to the Kaisaniemenrantakatu beach route and a renovation of the beach walls at the northern border. This work is scheduled to be completed in 2028.

The construction of the Baana route will temporarily divert cyclists in the autumn

During the construction of the Baana route, cycle traffic will be diverted to an alternative route between the Kaisantunneli underpass and the Kaisaniemi field. The temporary cycling routes will be asphalted.
