Concept competition for Haltiala farm progressing – decision on the winner to be issued in early 2026

The City of Helsinki is looking for a new operator to develop the Haltiala farm. The domestic animal farm operations at the farm will continue in the future, and the farm should be developed as a recreational, visitation and tourist area.

The City of Helsinki organised a concept competition to look for a partner to develop the Haltiala farm and to take over the ownership of the buildings and the animals. The City ended up receiving three competition proposals by the deadline. The City has now commenced negotiations with the party behind the best concept proposal.

The Urban Environment Committee is expected to decide on the winner of the competition in early 2026, following the negotiations.

“It is important that there are enough free services on the farm to attract families, especially families with children.  You will still be able to see some of the animals on the farm free of charge in the future as well,” says Project Manager Anu Hämäläinen from the City of Helsinki.

The competition criteria emphasise the visitor experience, the operator’s experience in running a farm or similar business and the feasibility of the concept. The animal husbandry must be ethical and staff must have the necessary skills for the job.
