The renovation will include replacing the market square's paving, lighting, benches and planting areas. The square will receive an abundance of new vegetation, such as shrubs, perennials and street trees. The City will also install new structures to direct maintenance traffic and prevent unauthorised vehicle access.
The square will feature a small playground for children. The City will also develop the square's potential for market sales and events. The City will install electric bollards in the square for events and market vendors. It is hoped that installing new fixed sales tables will attract residents to engage in flea market and small-scale sales. The City will assign suitable locations for market stalls and reserve space for a possible coffee stall.
The construction will begin on 8 September. The work will begin with the renovation of the water supply system and the demolition of the old concrete pavement from the direction of Malminraitti. There will be a break in the work during the winter, and new surfaces will be installed in the spring.
During the work, most of the square will be fenced off as a construction site. Access to all business premises will be available throughout the project.
The work will be completed in the autumn of 2026. The contractor is Stara.
