The parking services at Ruskeasuo and Oulunkylä Sports Parks were put out to tender in summer 2026, and parking charges will be introduced on 17 November 2026. Signage in the areas will be updated when the new arrangements are introduced.
“The costs of maintaining and managing sports facilities have increased. Revenue from parking charges will enable us to maintain free-of-charge sports facilities and help reduce pressure to increase the prices of paid sports services. At the same time, we are standardising parking practices across different sports facilities and encouraging customers to use public transport and other low-emission modes of transport when travelling to sports facilities,” says Anu Jokela, Head of the Sports Facilities Unit at the City of Helsinki Sports Services.
New technology reduces unnecessary control fees
The service provider was selected through an open tendering process in which five companies participated. The selection was based on overall cost-effectiveness. The quality criteria included factors such as ease of use, service response times, the clarity of the process and quality control. The City has selected +Park as its new parking management partner. The service is provided by 6sense Innovations Oy, a Finnish company specialising in AI-powered, camera-based parking management.
Parking is monitored using camera-based number plate recognition as well as by parking attendants. The cameras register the vehicle’s number plate when it enters and leaves the car park. Parking can be paid for using the EasyPark and ParkMan apps, at a payment machine when leaving, or online at parkkimaksu.fi within 48 hours of the end of the parking session.
“We are excited about our partnership with the City of Helsinki and the opportunity to make parking even easier and more flexible for motorists. By using smart camera-based technology, we aim to reduce unnecessary parking control charges, such as those resulting from motorists forgetting to pay for parking,” says Roni Westerling, Managing Director of 6sense Innovations Oy.
From 17 November 2026, the following parking charges will apply at the sports parks:
- Ruskeasuo Sports Park: €1 per commenced hour. When paying via an app or online, a service fee based on the selected payment service provider’s price list will be added to the parking charge. Parking charges apply 24 hours a day throughout the year, including to accessible parking spaces. However, it is possible, for example, to drop off or pick up a child attending an activity free of charge, as the first 15 minutes in the car park are free.
- Oulunkylä Sports Park: €1 per commenced three-hour period, followed by €0.50 per commenced hour. When paying via an app or online, a service fee based on the selected payment service provider’s price list will be added to the parking charge. The charges apply to the car park on the Käskynhaltijantie side, while the car park on the Hirsipadontie side will remain free of charge. Parking charges apply 24 hours a day throughout the year, including to accessible parking spaces. However, it is possible, for example, to drop off or pick up a child attending an activity or visit the Rinki recycling point free of charge, as the first 15 minutes in the car park are free.
There is no need to use a parking disc when parking in these areas. If the parking charge is not paid via an app, at a payment machine or on the parkkimaksu.fi website within 48 hours, the vehicle owner will be issued a parking control charge of €49. If a vehicle is parked in the area in breach of the parking regulations, a parking attendant may issue a parking control charge of €60 while the vehicle is parked.
