The most important remaining works are the completion of the switch control systems, the installation of rail lubrication equipment in Laajasalo and the remaining surface works on the road structures in Korkeasaari. In addition, test runs and rail grinding will continue on Kruunuvuori Bridge and the entire line.
The temporary artificial island under Kruunuvuori Bridge will be removed and the site will be restored as a spawning area for whitefish. These works can only be carried out after the archipelago bird nesting season in the coming summer.
Start of light rail passenger services
After the light rail is completed, Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd will start training tram drivers on the new line and ensure the conditions for safe operation before the start of passenger services.
Drivers must be familiarised and new drivers trained to drive specifically on the new line. Because of this, training cannot be started before the light rail line is completed.
The aim is to start passenger services by early 2027 at the latest. The start date of passenger services will be decided and announced by HSL in due course.
Bridge to be opened to pedestrians and cyclists on 18 April
Kruunuvuori Bridge will be opened to pedestrian and cycling traffic on Saturday 18 April, with pedestrians allowed on the bridge at 14.00 and cyclists allowed after 17.00. The opening is staggered to avoid congestion.
The Crown Bridges Alliance will provide more details on the opening programme after Easter.
Pedestrian and cycling traffic on Kruunuvuori Bridge may have to be temporarily restricted this summer due to the finishing work on the bridge. Any such restrictions will be announced in advance. There will also be test and training runs on the light rail area, and unauthorised movement in the light rail area is prohibited at all times.
