This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Tove Jansson, artist, writer and creator of the beloved Moomin characters. To celebrate this anniversary, special Tove 100 centenary events will be held throughout the year.
The Ateneum art museum hosts a major centenary exhibition throughout the Summer till September 7th. With her multifaceted life's work, Tove Jansson (1914-2001) became one of the key artists in Finnish visual art during the post-war golden age of modernism. Most of her paintings are landscapes, interiors and still lifes. The exhibition includes also colourful Moomin tableaus.
As a writer Tove Jansson eventually moved from children´s books to writing for an adult audience, though she is no doubt most widely known for the charming Moomins, who represent a complete philosophy of life.
The tales and adventures of the extended Moomin family are familiar to children and adults around the world, nowadays perhaps mostly from Japanese animated films. Jansson’s immense international success made her one of the best-known Finnish artists in the world.
